Income Tax Department Advisory on Taxpayer Communications

The Income Tax Department has recently issued Email and SMS communications to select taxpayers regarding certain financial transactions reported during the year.

Taxpayers are advised to exercise due diligence and verify the authenticity of such messages before taking any action.

The objective of this initiative is to provide taxpayers with an opportunity for voluntary compliance.

Taxpayers should note that the last date for revising or filing a belated return for Assessment Year 2025–26 is 31st December 2025.

Law-abiding taxpayers are not impacted by these provisions.

Advisory Press Release by the Income Tax Department

On 23rd December 2025, the Income Tax Department issued an advisory press release urging taxpayers to review their Income Tax Returns (ITRs). Using advanced data analytics, the department identified instances where certain deductions or exemptions may have been claimed without meeting the prescribed eligibility conditions.

Taxpayers have been advised to carefully reassess their filings and revise their returns wherever necessary. This proactive approach is encouraged to ensure compliance and to avoid the possibility of stricter enforcement measures at a later stage.

The advisory highlights the importance of accurate disclosures and voluntary correction, reinforcing the department’s focus on data-driven compliance and transparency.
